WI-RC Prompt 5: Inciting Incident

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

The inciting incident is the defining moment that propels the protagonist and the story forward. Outside forces push the main character to make a critical choice that changes the story's direction, for better or worse.

In The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen, Julia reveals to Emily the story of her mother's troubled past. Emily can't reconcile the kind and caring mother she knew with the girl accused of acting so cruelly.

Emily decides to uncover the real story about her mother and Logan Coffey, the mysterious Mullaby Lights, and why her and Win Coffey's budding romance is forbidden. The truth may be more shocking than anyone in the town expected.

Cheers :)
